Occupational Cancer Claims

Home > Work Related > Occupational Cancer

If you have developed a cancer which can be linked to carcinogens in your place of work, you could be eligible for compensation if your employer has failed to protect you.

Certain carcinogens cause particular cancers linked with professions including agriculture, painting, manufacturing, construction, mining and the military. Exposure to certain substances, too much sun or UV lighting can all lead to inhaling, ingesting or absorbing carcinogens or radiation through the skin.

Tell us about your condition and your place of work so that we can work quickly to claim compensation to help finance your cancer treatment and support your family.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much compensation am I entitled to?

The exact amount payable for cancer claims varies as each case is very individual. Usually the compensation for cancer, as it can be a life-threatening disease, is higher than for accident claims.

What is my employers’ responsibility?

Your bosses have a duty of care to protect you from harm in your working environment. In some workplaces it is not always possible to completely remove all carcinogens but your employer should adhere to all the precautions detailed in the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health regulations (COSHH). This covers PPE (protective equipment such as masks, goggles, gloves and clothing), risk training, good ventilation, safety barriers and warnings. If they have been negligent in any of these, they could be liable for cancer claims.

What are the most common occupational cancers?

Occupational cancers include: lung cancer due to exposure to asbestos or chemicals such as cadmium; bladder cancer from exposure to components such as benzidine and aromatic amines in dye and pigments; throat and laryngeal cancer from acid mists; nasal and sinus cancers from leather or wood dust; liver cancer from vinyl chloride in PVC and skin cancer from mineral oils and coal-tar distillation.
